Akwa United has recorded their first win under new Manager, Deji Ayeni, with a 2-1 victory against Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The Matchday 22 fixture which was fiercely contested saw the home team take the lead through a long-range strike via Babatunde Bello in the 14th minute of play.
The League Champions doubled their lead in the second half when Naibe Akpesiri put the ball into an empty net after a fine team move by Akwa.
Shooting Stars ensured there was a nervous end to the game after Chidera Eze halved the deficit as Akwa United Defenders were caught napping with nine minutes left to play.
Speaking after the game, both coaches expressed their view on their teams’ performances.
The win moves Akwa one spot up to the 8th position with 32 points while Shooting Stars remain in the 12th position with 27 points.
