Cult Rivalry: AKSG shut down Community Secondary School, Aka Offot, Uyo

Date:

Akwa Ibom State government has promptly shut Community Secondary School (CSS), Aka Offot in Uyo, where a senior student, James Elijah Adoke, 18, has been stabbed to death by Samuel Effiong Archibong in SS3 during a fight.

According to reports, the ugly incident occurred on Thursday, March 10, 2022 during School hours.

Reportedly Archibong who had left the school over cult-related issues to another School (name withheld) had visited the C.C.S.S and when fight ensued between both of them, he brought out a knife and stabbed James Adoke.

A student of the school who spoke to newsmen in confidence said James Adoke died before he could be rushed to the hospital, due to loss of too much blood.

The student linked the incident to lingering cult-related rivalry between SS3 and SS2 students of the School.

Reacting to the ugly incident, the Commissioner for Education, Idongesit Etiebet, ordered the closure of the school to enable the State Secondary Education Board and the Ministry of Education wade into the matter and restore calm

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko Macdon, said the incident occurred on March 10.

He called on parents to inculcate good family values in their children to avoid such occurrence.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Andrew Amiengheme, has directed the deployment of a Special Surveillance Unit to schools to check the excesses of students.

He warned students to be of good conduct during and after school hours as the command would not tolerate any act of hooliganism.

“This is not the first time we have witnessed an act of this nature and is totally unacceptable.

“The Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme, is miffed and has condemned the barbaric act.

“He has called on parents to enshrine germane family values while school authorities are to quickly and discreetly report suspected students with traits of cultism and misdemeanor,” Macdon said.

The PPRO said henceforth the command would send patrol teams to some secondary schools after closing hours to ensure that students went home safely.

Macdon said the police commissioner has assured the people that the perpetrator would be brought to book.
