Clash between herdsmen and Amotekun claims two lives

Two persons, a farmer and a Vigilante Officer in Ondo State have been allegedly shot dead by suspected herdsmen at Ago Sanusi along Ute Road in Owo, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that the herdsmen had laid an ambush for the Amotekun men in the forest.

A farmer whose name was given as Lanre who had earlier been abducted in the area was found dead in the forest.

Also, a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria was also shot dead.

The Commander of Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye confirmed the death of the two men to Newsmen.

Benue State Gov. reacts to comment by Bauchi State Gov. on herdsmen carrying arms

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has described as disappointing, the comments made by his Bauchi State counterpart, Bala Mohammed who blamed him for what he termed ‘negative perception of herders’ when he spoke on the current security situation in the country.

Governor Ortom in a statement said while he will not want to join issues with his Bauchi State counterpart, he finds it shocking that a colleague who took the oath of office as he also did, to protect and preserve the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, now takes the lead in violating provisions of the same constitution by calling for lawlessness.

Governor Ortom pointed out that the most shocking part of Governor Bala Mohammed’s statement was where he defended herdsmen to carry arms.

Bauchi Gov. Bala Mohammed defends carrying of arms by herdsmen

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has said herdsmen can carry AK-47 rifle for self-defence because they are being attacked by cattle rustlers.
Governor Mohammed made the statement at the closing ceremony of the 2021 Press Week of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bauchi State Council.

He slammed his counterpart in Benue State, Samuel Ortom, over his handling of the farmer-herder clashes which had led to loss of lives.
He faulted the notice to quit given to herdsmen in some southern states, particularly Ondo state, pointing out that the moves of the southern governors are wrong.

EDSG assures of adequate security for foreign/local investors

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has expressed his administration’s readiness to provide adequate security for both foreign and local investors willing to do business in Edo State.

Governor Obaseki made the remark today during the inauguration of an automobile servicing company and exhibition of made in Edo state products at the Edo Production Center in Benin City.

7 fmr. state governorship candidates offer advice on ways to check insecurity in Edo State

Edo state Former governorship candidates Forum has called on the state governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki to be decisive on the issue of security and also pay attention to the welfare and safety of the citizens of the state.

Efosa Uwangue reports that the former governorship candidates gave the advise today at a press conference in Benin.

18 Prisoners Graduate From NOUN

Eighteen inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCOs), studying at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Corrections’ Special Study Centres, last Saturday, graduated with various degree certificates.

The Public Relations Officer of the NCOs CC Francis Enobore disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

According to him, the Acting Controller General of Corrections, John Marbury, congratulate the graduands also charged them to see educational advancement as a stepping stone to a brighter future.

He further urged them to shun anti-social behaviors capable of tainting the new course of positive life they have chosen for themselves and be good ambassadors of both the Correctional Service and NOUN.

The graduates are from the: Medium Security Custodial Centre Awka, Anambra State 1 inmate; Maximum Security Custodial Centres Enugu, 6 inmates, and Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Lagos Stae, 6 inmates.

Others are Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje 4 inmates, and Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Port Harcourt-Rivers State, 1 inmate.

A total of 3,000 inmates are currently running different degree Programmes with the NOUN while 50 are undergoing National Certificates in Education (NCE) with Yewa College of Education, Ogun State.

Presently, the Service has 12 Special Study Centres in different Custodial facilities across the country.

President Buhari Nominates Olonisakin, Buratai,Other Former Service Chiefs As Non-Career Ambassadors

President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded the names of the immediate past Service Chiefs to the Senate as non-career Ambassadors-Designate.

This is contained in In a letter to Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, President of the Senate, the President said: “In accordance with section 171 (1), (2) (c) & sub-section (4) of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I have the honor to forward for confirmation by the Senate, the under-listed five (5) names of nominees as Non-Career Ambassadors-Designate.”

The nominees are: Gen Abayomi G. Olonisakin (Rtd ), Lt Gen Tukur Y. Buratai (Rtd), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Rtd), and Air Vice Marshal Mohammed S. Usman (Rtd).

The President urged the Senate to give expeditious consideration to the nominations.

Maina’s Son Has Fled To US, EFCC Tells Court

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC says Faisal Maina, son of Abdulrasheed Maina, former Chairman, defunct Pension Reformed Task Team, has fled to the United States of America USA.

The EFCC’s Counsel, Mohammed Abubakar, disclosed this when he appeared before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday.

Abubakar said from the information at the disposal of the anti-graft agency, Faisal sneaked to the USA through the Republic of Niger.

Earlier at the Thursday’s sitting, Justice Abang, in a committal proceeding ruling, ordered Faisal’s surety, who is a member of the House of Representatives, Sani Dan-Galadima, representing Kaura-Namoda Federal Constituency of Zamfara, to forfeit a property used as a bail bond.

IGP Adamu Gets Three Month Tenure Extension

President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the tenure of Mohammed Adamu as the Inspector General of Police IGP for three months.

Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammad Dingyadi made the announcement to state House Correspondent after meeting with president Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday at the presidential villa, Abuja.

He said the extension was necessary to give room for the proper selection of a successor.

Fed. Govt. extends NIN-SIM linkage by eight weeks

The federal government has announced that the ongoing National Identification Number and Subscriber Identity Module integration exercise has been extended by eight weeks.

According to a statement made public today, the new deadline is now April 6, 2021.

Director, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission, Ikechukwu Ayinde, who disclosed this, said the extension was conveyed by the Ministerial Taskforce on NIN-SIM registration which was held yesterday.
