DEADLY STORM CUTS TRANSPORT LINKS AROUND VANCOUVER, CANADA.

A deadly storm has severed roads and rail links around vancouver in Canada, cutting two motorways connecting the West Coast City, which were closed after being damaged by severe flooding.

According to the royal Canadian mounted police, a woman was killed in highway landslide and her body was found near Lillooet, about 250 kilometers from Vancouver, adding that at least two other persons are missing.

The Provincial Minister of Transportation, Rob Fleming, told newsmen that it was the “worst weather storm in a century”, and thousands of people were forced to leave their homes due to the massive storm.

SUPER EAGLES TO KNOW 2022 WORLD CUP PLAYOFFS OPPONENTS DECEMBER 18.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will know their opponents for the Final Round of Qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on December 18, when the draw for the final playoffs is staged.

Ten teams have now progressed to the final playoffs, which will be played between March 21 and 29, 2022 on knockout basis.

Nigeria is one of the five seeded teams by virtue of their latest FIFA rankings and will therefore play the first leg of the playoffs away, before they come home for the reverse tie.

The other seeded teams are Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, meaning the seeded teams will all avoid each other in the playoffs.

Nigeria could therefore draw anyone of the teams who are not seeded, which include Egypt, Ghana, Mali, Cameroon, and D.R. Congo.

The three-time African Champions have participated in all FIFA World Cup Final Tournaments since her debut in 1994 in the United States of America, but narrowly missed the 2006 finals hosted by Germany following head-to-head rule that favoured Angola after finishing with the same points.

UDUAK AKPAN DENIES WRITTEN CONFESSION ALLEGEDLY WRITTEN BY HIM DURING HIS DETENTION.

Uduak Akpan, the alleged killer of a young graduate, Iniubong Umoren has denied a written confession that was allegedly written by him during his detention in the Anti-Kidnapping Squad Office in Uyo.

Akpan stated this during his trial on Tuesday at the State High Court, Uyo.

He explained that the statement was already written and brought to him to append his signature, and when he refused, he was strangulated with a nylon bag and threatened with a gun.

Explaining the effect this has on the case while speaking with newsmen after the Court session, Former Attorney General of the State, Uwemedimo Nwoko said the Court would have a trial within a trial to ascertain the true fact of the issue.

On the 24 hour rule that the police relied on before filing  a missing person’s report, Counsel to the second and third defendant, Samson Ekongson, called for a reform on the Police Force.

You would recall that Uduak Akpan is standing trial alongside his father, Frank Akpan who is listed as second defendant over the murder of Iniubong Umoren.

The case has been adjourned to 1st December, 2021.

TWO ARRESTED IN RIVERS STATE OVER MURDER OF A NINE YEAR OLD BOY.

Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, says two persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of a nine-year-old boy in Isiokpo Clan, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State.

The PRO who noted that the incident occurred on November 12, 2021, revealed that the two suspects, Chibuzor Amadi and Kenneth Sylvanus, lured the victim, Destiny Peter, beheaded him and removed his internals.

Omoni, said the remains of Destiny had been deposited in the mortuary, promising that justice would be served in the matter.

SUPER EAGLES DRAW CAPE VERDE, REACH 2022 WCQ PLAYOFF ROUND

The Super Eagles have qualified for the Playoff Round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on Tuesday.

Victor Osimhen put Nigeria ahead in the first minute, tucking home Moses Simon’s corner kick.

The hosts’ lead lasted five minutes with Stopira equalizing for the Blue Sharks.

It was all Super Eagles afterwards with Alex Iwobi coming close with a fine effort on 11 minutes.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr made a tactical substitution in the 67th minute replacing injured Simon with Shehu Abdullahi.

However, the Super Eagles finished top of Group C with 13 points, two more than the Blue Sharks.

BUHARI FELICITATES WITH FORMER PRESIDENT JONATHAN AT 64.

President Muhammadu Buhari felicitates with former President, Goodluck Jonathan, on his 64th birthday today, Nov. 17th.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President, acknowledged former President Jonathan’s service to the Nation and congratulated him for working for peace and advancement of democracy on the African Continent.

Buhari believes the former President’s profile should remind those in position and all aspiring leaders that serving the country and humanity requires sacrifice, and ultimately placing the interest of others above personal gains.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES POLICY ON GENDER BALANCE IN EDUCATION.

The Federal Government has launched the National Policy on Gender in Education.

The newly launched document is now an all-inclusive policy that makes specific provision for access to education by both boys and girls, beyond basic education level.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, while speaking during the lunch, stated that the revised National Policy on Gender in Education was a step in the right direction as it cuts across all levels of education, captures emerging issues and cross cutting issues.

He further urged all sectors and states to ensure that the policy was used as a tool for achieving not only gender equality and equity but achievement of SDG 2030 Agenda.

IBOM AIR SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH AIR BUS TO ORDER TEN (10) A220 AIRCRAFT

Ibom Air, the indigenous Airline of the Akwa Ibom State Government of Nigeria, has placed an order for ten (10) A220 aircraft with Airbus, at the ongoing Dubai Air show, taking place at the purpose built DWC event arena in Dubai.

The order of the ten (10) Airbus A220 is in line with the airline’s aggressive growth plan, which will see it expanding its footprint into new domestic routes as well as regional routes covering West and Central Africa in the immediate future.

The agreement, was signed on Tuesday by the Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air,  Mfon Udom and Chief Commercial Officer of Airbus, Christian Scherer, in the presence of His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Akwa Ibom State, Uko Udom, SAN, and the Chairman of Ibom Air, Imoabasi Jacob who led the Ibom Air team, which also included the airline’s Chief Operating Officer, George Uriesi, the Group Manager Marketing and communication, Aniekan Essienette and the Group Manager Corporate Services, Imelda Aba.

The first phase of this expansion is set to cover cities like Malabo, Douala, Libreville, Kinshasa, Accra, Abidjan, Freetown, Banjul and Dakar and ultimately intends to operate throughout the continent of Africa.

Ibom Air welcomes A220 to Nigeria & West Africa! - Ibom Air

PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN CAUTIONS CHINESE COUNTERPART AGAINST UNDERMINING PEACE IN TAIWAN.

US president Joe Biden has cautioned Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping that the US is strongly opposed to unilateral efforts to change the status quo or undermine peace across Taiwan.

The remarks were made during the two leaders’ first virtual summit.

Biden and Xi also discussed other controversial issues like China’s practices in Xinjiang and Hong Kong.

These is the most substantial discussions both leaders have had since Biden took office in January.

PRESIDENT BUHARI EXPRESSES CONFIDENCE IN AFRICAN CONTINENTAL FREE TRADE AREA.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed confidence that, the African Continental Free Trade will work, especially with the active collaboration of the public and private sectors.

Speaking during the opening ceremony of the event, in Durban, South Africa, the President assured participants at the 2nd Intra-African Trade Fair 2021, that his delegation is attending with ‘full force to maximize the advantage of the gathering.

The President’s expectation of a good performance by Nigerian businesses at the Durban fair is hinged on the outcome of the last edition in Cairo, Egypt at which they got deals worth over 3.3 billion dollars.

Current records show that intra African trade accounts for only 15 percent of their transactions.

AKWA IBOM HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY CONTINUES 2022 BUDGET DEFENCE.

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has continued its budget defence with the Ministry of Agriculture and other ministries appearing before the House to defend its 2022 budget.

The Commissioner for Agriculture Glory Edet, who led the team from the ministry, told the House Committee on Appropriation and Finance, that the ministry has been empowering farmers in the state with inputs to produce food for the citizenry, also explaining the workings of the Garri processing mill and the coconut plantation.

The Commissioner noted that the Hatchery project at Uruan has been handed over to a private group and would commence work soon, adding that the implementation of the anti-grazing bill is in progress.

Also defending its 2022 budget was the Ministry of Education, with the Commissioner for Education Idongesit Etiebet, leading her team of Directors and Permanent Secretary in the ministry, before the committee.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation and Finance Uduak Odudoh, appealed to the Commissioner to look into funding for the college of Science and Technology.

Others who were present at the 2022 budget defense were the Ministry of Women Affairs led by the Commissioner Ini Adiakpan, and the Life Enhancement Agency, led by the Executive Secretary Maria Ekanem.
