FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO DEPLOY 12 SUPER TUCANO JETS AGAINST BANDITS

The Federal Government says it is set for the deployment of 12 Super Tucano jets against bandits as part of concerted efforts by President Muhammadu Buhari to end terrorism before 2023.

The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice last night confirmed that the procedures were almost met.

According to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, government has also started perfecting the conditions for the release of a gazette, which will legally classify bandits as terrorists.

But, the United States (U.S.) has not given a blank cheque to Nigeria on the use of the fighter jets.

MINISTER OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT URGES NEWLY-INDUCTED DOCTORS TO DESIST FROM PARTICIPATING IN PERSISTENT STRIKES.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has urged newly-inducted doctors to desist from partici­pating in persistent strikes, saying it is unethical for doctors to embark on strike.

The Minister gave the charge in a statement signed by the Deputy Director, Press, and Public Relations in the Ministry, Charles Akpan, in Abuja.

Ngige whose son, Dr. An­drew Ngige, is among the new inductees, urged the medical graduates to be of good be­haviour and uphold the high­est ethical standards while carrying out their duties.

He noted that the medical profession is a noble one and hence, they should abstain from any conduct which is capable of bringing their esteemed profession to disre­pute.

NAFDAC SAYS USAGE OF APHRODISIACS TO IMPRESS FEMALE PARTNERS CAN RESULT IN STROKE.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Admin­istration and Control (NAFDAC) says the usage of aphrodisiacs or performance-enhancing drugs to impress female partners can result in a stroke or sudden death.

Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of NAFDAC, made this known in her Christ­mas and New Year message to Nigerians, where she con­demned the prevalence of per­formance-enhancing pharma­ceuticals, or manpower in local parlance, in the Nigerian market.

Adeyeye claimed that the majority of performance-enhancing medications were not registered with NAFDAC.

SERAP Urges President Muhammadu Buhari To Use Office To Investigate Allegations Of Missing Three Billion Naira.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to use his good office to direct the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and appropriate anti-corruption agencies to investigate allegations that over three billion naira of public funds are missing, mismanaged or diverted from the Federal Ministry of Finance.

In a letter dated December 24, 2021 and signed by SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, the organisation noted that the reports suggest a grave violation of public trust.

SERAP said anyone found guilty must face prosecution and any missing public funds should be fully recovered.

LAI MOHAMMED DENIES CONTRACTING COVID-19.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has denied report that he has contracted COVID-19 virus and was now in isolation, where he is receiving treatment.

The Minister, who is among those reported to have contracted the virus within the Presidency, refuted the report in a statement on Sunday by his spokesman, Segun Adeyemi, noting that he does not have COVID-19, hence he was neither in isolation nor receiving treatment anywhere.

Also reacting to the claim that he is ill, Mohammed said he is hale and hearty, adding that he had taken the two doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

He urged the online newspaper behind the fake news, in the best tradition of journalism not only to retract the publication but also to apologise to him for causing him such embarrassment.

YULETIDE: PRESIDENT BUHARI FELICITATES WITH NIGERIANS

President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with Nigerian as they celebrate the yuletide.

In a message, he wished citizens a peaceful celebration, as he urged them to exhibit the lessons of Christmas.

It is a special period that brings peoples of the world together with one purpose; to celebrate togetherness, joy, peace, and above all, to share love with one another through exchange of goodwill and gifts.

The President lamented the emergence of covid-19, with its attendant debilitating impact, has remained with mankind, mutating and leaving in its wake devastating consequences on the economy, social interaction, and curtailing certain freedoms.

The silver lining, however, is that humanity has been able to rise up with one voice and purpose, to confront the foisted conditions.

Buhari assured Nigerian that the current security challenges troubling some parts of the country would be surmounted and also said there is a great hope for Nigeria.

AKWA IBOM STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, ORDERS BAN ON USE OF FIREWORKS DURING YULETIDE.

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, AMIENGHEME ANDREW, has ordered a ban on the use of fireworks across the State during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

In a statement signed by the PPRO, Odiko Macdon, the Commissioner asked parents and guardians to warn their children to desist from the use of all kinds of prohibited fireworks during and after the yuletide.

He further warned those who burn tyres on the main roads and highways during festivities to desist forthwith as such acts causes damage to the road and is capable of causing fire outbreaks.

While felicitating with the good people of Akwa Ibom State at Christmas, he assured that security has been beefed up in all parts of the State for a successful celebration of the yuletide and beyond.

COURT ORDERS NIS TO PAY N2M FOR REFUSING TO RELEASE PETER ODILI’S INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT.

Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to pay the sum of two million naira for refusing to release the international passport of former Rivers State governor, Peter Odili.

Justice Inyang Ekwo while ruling on  the application made by Odili’s lawyer Ifedayo Adedipe, bereted the Agency’s lawyer, Malami Adamu for his disregard to the Court’s Order to produce the Defendant’s passport, as well as careless abandonment of the court processes filed by them.

He said the Immigration Services had reasonable and ample opportunity to comply with the orders of the court but refused to comply.

Justice Ekwo therefore, ordered payment of two million naira as cost against the Agency and directed that the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, take disciplinary actions against Malami Adamu before the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee.

PRESIDENT BUHARI GIVES REASON FOR WITHHOLDING ASSENT TO ELECTORAL ACT (AMENDMENT) BILL 2021.

President Muhammadu Buhari has explained why he withheld his assent to the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill 2021.

In a letter to the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan, President Buhari said prevailing situation in the country amongst other things would not allow him to sign the bill.

Among other reasons for rejecting the Bill, the President cited high cost of conducting direct primaries, the security challenge of monitoring the election, violation of citizens’ rights and marginalization of small political parties.

It is believed that the Electoral Law if assented will open a new vista for a credible Electoral process in Nigeria’s democracy.

The house did not debate on the President’s refusal to sign the Bill.
