CAF PRESIDENT MOTSEPE MOURNS TRAGIC LOSS OF SEVEN PLAYERS IN ZAMBIAN ACCIDENT

President of the Confederation of African Football, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic road accident in Zambia that resulted in the deaths of seven players from Chavuma Town Council Football Club.

In his statement, Dr. Motsepe extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased players, as well as to the Football Association of Zambia, its President Andrew Kamanga, and the people of Zambia.

The accident occurred while the Chavuma Town Council Football Club was en route to a North Western Province Division One League match.

The CAF President also offered prayers for the swift recovery of those injured and for God’s comfort to the families, friends, and colleagues of the victims, as well as to the Football Association of Zambia.

MOROCCO 2025: SUPER EAGLES TO CONCLUDE QUALIFYING CAMPAIGN ON 18TH NOVEMBER

The Confederation of African Football has scheduled Nigeria’s final qualifying match for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against Rwanda for Monday, 18th November.

This important Matchday 6 encounter will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, marking the conclusion of Group D’s qualification race for the next AFCON set to occur in Morocco from December 2025 to January 2026.

CAF has appointed Moroccan officials for the match, with Samir Guezzaz serving as the referee. The match is set to kick off at 5 PM Nigeria time.

Meanwhile, for Nigeria’s Matchday 5 clash against Benin Republic in Ivory Coast on Thursday, 14th November, which will start at 8 PM Nigeria time, CAF has designated Senegalese officials for that encounter.

Spain and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati has won the women’s Ballon d’Or for the second consecutive year.

ADEMOLA LOOKMAN NAMED 14TH BEST MALE FOOTBALLER IN THE WORLD

Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has been recognized as the 14th-best male footballer in the world.

The 27-year-old was honored at the Ballon d’Or ceremony held on Monday in Paris, France, where he was listed among the top 15 players globally.

Lookman is the only African player to feature on the 30-player shortlist for the 2024 Ballon d’Or prize and is the second Nigerian to receive a nomination in two years, following Victor Osimhen’s recognition in 2023.

In this year’s rankings, Lookman outperformed notable players such as Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard, Bukayo Saka, and William Saliba.

Last season, he scored 17 goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions, leading Atalanta to the Europa League title.

Imo Police Detain Student for Faking Abduction, Death in Social Media Hoax

The Imo State Police Command has detained 17-year-old Jesse Chidebere, a student of Imo State University (IMSU), for allegedly staging her own abduction and death in a social media prank.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement released in Owerri on Tuesday.

According to Okoye, the incident caused significant distress among Chidebere’s family members and the university community.

“On October 26, around 10:00 p.m., police received a distress call from concerned citizens, reporting Chidebere missing. A message sent from her WhatsApp account claimed she had been abducted and killed, instructing her family to visit the Orji Police Station for verification.

“In response, police launched a search and discovered on October 27 that Chidebere was alive, and had fabricated the story as a social media prank,” the statement read.

Okoye confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine her motive and that she will face prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aboki Danjuma, expressed concern over what he described as “irresponsible behavior that wasted valuable resources and sparked public alarm.”

He urged parents to caution their children against engaging in dangerous pranks and disseminating false information.

The Police Command reiterated its commitment to addressing misinformation and maintaining a secure environment for residents in the state.

Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri has won the men’s Ballon d’Or for the first time, recognizing him as the best footballer of the year.

NSCDC CONFISCATES 46 DRUMS OF ILLEGALLY REFINED CRUDE OIL IN RIVERS STATE

In a significant crackdown, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted 46 drums of crude oil in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The NSCDC’s Rivers State Commandant, Joachim Okafor, led news personnel to the Rukpokwu site where the illegal refining operation was discovered, attributing the successful bust to coordinated intelligence efforts.

Commandant Okafor cautioned those involved in illegal refining to desist or face legal consequences, adding that the seized crude oil will be handed over to the federal government upon completion of the investigation.

PRESIDENT TINUBU ORDERS SWIFT ACTION TO END NORTHERN BLACKOUT

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has voiced concern over the weeklong blackout affecting the northern region, emphasizing the urgent need to restore power to communities impacted by the outage. Summoning Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, the President directed swift action to reinstate electricity across affected northern states.

President Tinubu, troubled by reports of sabotage to public infrastructure, instructed Minister Adelabu and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to expedite repairs on the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line and devise a long-term plan to prevent future disruptions. He further tasked TCN engineers to accelerate relief efforts for communities facing prolonged outages, ensuring that essential power is restored to sustain both social and economic activities.

In addition, President Tinubu ordered National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu to coordinate with the Army and Air Force, providing security for TCN repair teams, including aerial surveillance to safeguard personnel and assets. He called on traditional and community leaders to collaborate with security agencies to prevent further damage to public infrastructure, affirming that the government will no longer tolerate willful destruction of national assets.

FCT MINISTER URGES RESIDENTS TO SETTLE GROUND RENT DEBTS FOR DEVELOPMENT

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike has called on residents to clear their overdue ground rent payments, emphasizing that these funds are vital to advancing critical infrastructure projects throughout the FCT. Speaking at the inauguration of upgrades to the War College/Army Checkpoint and adjoining roads in Bwari Area Council, the Minister underscored that fulfilling these financial obligations would enable the government to realize its development and infrastructure goals for the territory.

 

 

In his remarks, Bwari Area Council Chairman, Hon. John Gabaya, expressed appreciation for the Minister’s commitment to residents’ welfare, particularly in underserved communities, noting that the road improvements would enhance transportation and improve living standards in the area.

 

The Minister is expected to continue infrastructure project inspections, with his next scheduled visit to Kwali Area Council.
