APC, YPP reject Akwa Ibom State Governorship Election Results

Date:

The All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State has stated that the conduct of the March 18th Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the State was marred by widespread violence, ballot snatching/stuffing and vote-buying and falls short of requirement of the law.

In a statement by the Director of Communications, Akanimo Udofia/Victor Antai Gubernatorial Campaign Council, Barrister Imo Akpan also added that there was heavy deployment of cash for voter-inducement by state government backed agents and massive engagement of gun-wielding thugs in the elections leading to deaths and injuries calls for concern too.

The campaign council stressed that some uniformed security personnel seemed to openly identify with and provide cover for these criminals.

The statement said that a thorough appraisal of the compendium of incidents will guide the APC further reaction on the outcome of the exercise since it is common that the legitimacy of any electoral outcome lies in the freedom of the process.

Meanwhile, YPP Agent at the State Collation Office, Ubong Umoh has rejected the result of the governorship election and vowed to seek legal redress over the electoral process.
