Akwa Ibom Government Takes Steps To Bring Down Cost Of Governance

Akwa Ibom Government has adopted drastic measures aimed at curbing the cost of governance in the state.

The decision was taken at the January edition of the State Executive Council Meeting on Monday at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s Office in Uyo, the state capital.

The meeting presided over by the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, had in attendance the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Head of the Civil Service, Honourable Commissioners, and Special Adviser.

The Information Commissioner, Comrade Ini Ememobong, who briefed government house correspondents on the deliberations and decisions of the council meeting, stated that the office of the Secretary to the Government was granted permission to undertake a cost reduction management structure for the state official private jet.

Comrade Ememobong said the council received reports on the proposed dialysis and renal centers from the commissioner of health, highlighting the sites, buildings, and equipment needed for centers as well as an update of the Akwa Ibom State Social Register with about 671, 410 entries from vulnerable persons in the different local government areas of the state.

On education, the Commissioner also stated that updates on the production of educational items for pupils in public primary schools in the state, the Akwa Ibom-United Kingdom Education Exchange Programme, and the Report on the repositioning of Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation were also received by the council.

According to him, the EXCO has ratified recommendations from the finance and general purposes committee on the approval for the release of funds for additional works at the airport and ongoing road contracts across the state.
