Ondo PDP Rejects Dissolution Of State Executive Committee

Date:

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has dismissed claims that its State Executive Committee has been dissolved, describing the directive as misleading and lacking constitutional backing.

Speaking during a press conference at the party’s secretariat in Akure, the state chairman Dupe Aisida said the party’s leadership in the state remains valid and fully operational.

According to him, the state chapter has not received any official communication from the national leadership of the party ordering the dissolution of its executive committee.

‘Claim Came As A Surprise’

Aisida explained that the party became aware of a letter circulating on social media claiming that a National Caretaker Working Committee had dissolved the Ondo State Executive Committee.

“On Sunday evening, a letter was circulating on the internet and social media reportedly written by someone claiming to be the National Publicity Secretary of the Caretaker Committee of our party, stating that the state executive committee of the PDP in Ondo State had been dissolved. Of course, it came as a surprise to us,” he said.

He insisted that the state leadership emerged through duly conducted congresses in accordance with the party’s constitution.

Congresses Conducted Under Supervision

The chairman explained that the party conducted its ward congress on September 13, 2025, across the state’s 203 wards, with monitoring by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Department of State Services.

“The ward congress was conducted in all the 203 wards in Ondo State. INEC was there, the police sent their representatives, the DSS and other stakeholders were present, and they wrote their reports confirming that everything was done according to the guidelines,” Aisida said.

He added that the local government congresses took place on September 17, 2025, across the state’s 18 local government areas, also under the supervision of security agencies and election observers.

No Petitions Filed

According to Aisida, the state congress was eventually held on September 27, 2025, in Akure and was described as peaceful and transparent.

He noted that appeal committees were established for the ward, local government and state congresses, but no petitions were filed against the process.

“As a matter of fact, appeal committees were set up for the ward, local government and state congresses, but not a single petition was received. Everything was seamless and transparent,” he said.

Aisida added that after the congresses, the newly elected executives were sworn in and immediately began party activities aimed at strengthening the opposition in the state.
