The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has declared full support for a proposed constitutional amendment seeking to reserve legislative seats for women in the National and State Assemblies.
In a communiqué released after their meeting early Friday, the governors urged members to lobby both federal and state lawmakers to ensure the bill’s passage, describing it as a crucial step toward enhancing women’s political participation and representation.
The bill, set for debate at the National Assembly, proposes the creation of special constituencies to be exclusively contested by women as a temporary measure to boost gender inclusion in governance.
The governors also commended the Federal Government’s economic reforms, particularly the Central Bank of Nigeria’s fiscal stabilization policies, pledging continued collaboration to strengthen the economy.
They further reaffirmed their commitment to addressing insecurity across the country, vowing to work closely with the Department of State Services (DSS) to counter emerging threats and reinforce national stability.
