The Anambra State Police Command has stepped up security arrangements ahead of the forthcoming Anambra Governorship Election, with the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, embarking on an operational tour and evaluation of police formations across the state.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the exercise aims to assess the preparedness of officers and men for the crucial electoral assignment.
The tour, which began with a visit to the Onitsha Area Command, featured high-visibility patrols led by the Commissioner through major routes and strategic locations in the area.
During his address to officers and men, CP Orutugu emphasized the importance of professionalism, neutrality, and adherence to the rule of law during election duties.
He urged personnel to remain disciplined and uphold the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force, assuring that the Command is committed to providing a safe and secure environment before, during, and after the election.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections across the country.
During the patrol, CP Orutugu inspected police formations, checkpoints, and posts to ensure that deployed officers were alert and adequately equipped. He also commended the cooperation of sister security agencies and other security stakeholders in maintaining synergy and supporting the police in their operations.
The police commissioner further appealed to residents to remain law-abiding and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
