Brazilian forward Neymar broke down in tears after Santos suffered a humiliating 6-0 home defeat to Vasco da Gama in the Brazilian Serie A.
The result was the heaviest loss of Neymar’s career and marked the first time Santos have conceded six goals at home in a league match. Hours after the final whistle, head coach Cleber Xavier was sacked.
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa forward Philippe Coutinho netted twice to lead Vasco to their first league win in six matches and their biggest league victory in 17 years.
Neymar, who became the world’s most expensive footballer after his £200 million move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, returned to his boyhood club in January following a stint with Saudi side Al-Hilal.
