Emir of Gusau Dies at 71, Governor Lawal Mourns Respected Monarch

Date:

The Emir of Gusau, His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness. He died Friday morning in Abuja, bringing to an end a decade-long reign marked by dedication, wisdom, and service to the people of Zamfara State.

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, expressed profound grief over the monarch’s passing, describing it as a personal loss and a tragedy for the state.

“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau,” Governor Lawal said in a condolence message. “His Highness’s passing is a huge loss for the people of Zamfara, the North, and Nigeria as a whole.”

He extended condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Gusau Emirate, the late Emir’s family, and the entire people of the state, noting that the late monarch was “a supportive royal father and a leader who dedicated his life to the betterment of our state.”

Emir Bello ascended the throne on March 16, 2015, becoming the 15th Emir of Gusau. Prior to his ascension, he had a distinguished career in public service, rising to the rank of Permanent Secretary in both the former Sokoto State and Zamfara.

Governor Lawal described the Emir as a father figure and confidant whose wisdom played a crucial role in guiding the state’s leadership.

“I have lost a confidant and a father whose wisdom guided me and other leaders in the state,” the governor stated. “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”
