The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The decision was reached on Tuesday during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
According to the Board, the cut-off marks for other categories of tertiary institutions are as follows: 140 for colleges of nursing sciences, and 100 each for polytechnics, colleges of education, and colleges of agriculture.
“The minimum admissible scores for admissions for the next academic session have been fixed at 150 for universities, 100 for polytechnics, 100 for colleges of education, and 140 for colleges of nursing sciences by the stakeholders (Heads of Tertiary Institutions),” JAMB stated on its official X handle.
Technical Glitches in UTME
This policy announcement comes months after JAMB acknowledged technical issues that affected the conduct of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The Board had subsequently rescheduled examinations for affected candidates across the country.
Admission Age Pegged at 16
In a related development, the Federal Government has set the minimum age for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria at 16 years.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, made the announcement during the same policy meeting. He stated that the age requirement will be enforced through JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), with flexibility to accommodate candidates who would turn 16 by August 31, 2025.
The move aims to ensure uniformity and maturity in the admission process across Nigerian tertiary institutions.
