The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the arraignment of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to June 30, 2025, following the prosecution’s inability to effect personal service of charges on her.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), repeated attempts to serve the senator with the cybercrime-related charges failed, as she was reportedly outside the country.
At the court session today, the DPP sought leave to serve the charges through Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal counsel, an application that was granted by Justice M.G. Umar of Court 5. The charge was subsequently served via the approved alternative means.
The prosecution then requested an adjournment to allow for the senator’s proper arraignment, which the court approved. The matter is now scheduled to proceed on June 30, 2025.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan faces charges under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, though the specific details of the alleged offence were not disclosed during today’s proceedings.
