President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the 19th Heads of State and Government Summit of the Group of 20 (G20).

He touched down on Sunday at 11:03 p.m. local time (3:03 a.m. Nigerian time), where he was welcomed by Brazil’s Ministry of External Relations, represented by Ambassador Breno Costa.

Accompanying the President are Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Livestock Development Idi Mukhtar Maiha, and Minister of Art, Tourism, Culture, and Creativity Hannatu Musawa.

Also, part of his delegation are Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi and National Intelligence Agency Director-General Amb. Mohammed Mohammed.

President Tinubu is expected to engage in bilateral meetings during the summit to advance Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms.

The summit, hosted by Brazilian President Lula da Silva, is centered on the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” emphasizing sustainable development across economic, social, and environmental dimensions, as well as the reform of global governance structures.

Key topics include global climate change, digital economy principles, and urgent geopolitical issues such as the Israel-Hamas conflict and tensions between the United States and China.

As part of his agenda, President da Silva has focused on combating hunger, poverty, and inequality, to eliminate extreme poverty by 2030.

The G20 summit, scheduled for November 18-19, gathers leaders from 19 member countries, including major economies like the US, China, Germany, and India, alongside representatives from the African Union and European Union.

The gathering serves as the culmination of Brazil’s G20 presidency, during which the nation has championed food security and sustainable development.

President Tinubu’s participation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to engaging in global conversations on sustainability and economic reform.
