AT SAUDI SUMMIT, PRESIDENT TINUBU CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE IN GAZA, ADVOCATES TWO-STATE SOLUTION

Date:

President Bola Tinubu, speaking at the extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, urged an immediate end to hostilities in Gaza, calling for the actualization of a two-state solution. Addressing leaders from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the League of Arab States, Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s support for a peaceful resolution where Israelis and Palestinians can coexist securely and with dignity.

“The conflict in Palestine has gone on too long, causing immeasurable suffering,” President Tinubu stated. He emphasized that while nations have a right to self-defense, actions must be proportional and within the bounds of international law and diplomacy. “No political aim or military strategy justifies the loss of innocent lives,” he said, urging a collective global effort to address the crisis.

The Nigerian leader called for enhanced diplomacy, noting that Nigeria will continue to support peace initiatives in the Middle East, drawing from its own experiences with reconciliation and diversity management. He also proposed the establishment of a secretariat to oversee the summit’s resolutions, stressing the need for structured follow-up to achieve lasting peace.
