Consumers in Akwa Ibom, Oyo, and Delta Pay Highest Prices for Household Kerosene in July 2024

In July 2024, consumers of household kerosene in Akwa Ibom, Oyo, and Delta states faced the highest average prices per litre, with costs recorded at ₦2,383.33, ₦2,375.00, and ₦2,309.52, respectively.

This is according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The average retail price per litre of household kerosene across Nigeria was ₦1,769.86 in July 2024, marking a 13.81% increase from ₦1,555.11 in June 2024. Year-on-year, the price surged by 40.37% from ₦1,260.81 in July 2023.

On the lower end of the spectrum, Adamawa State recorded the lowest price at ₦1,171.11, followed by Taraba State at ₦1,191.30 and Borno State at ₦1,381.58.

Regional analysis reveals that the South-South zone had the highest average retail price per litre at ₦2,086.61, followed by the South-West at ₦2,051.27, while the North-East recorded the lowest at ₦1,411.97.

The report also noted that the average retail price per gallon of household kerosene in July 2024 was ₦5,762.10, a 1.11% increase from ₦5,698.68 in June 2024. On a year-on-year basis, this price increased by 33.81% from ₦4,306.07 in July 2023.

State-wise, Jigawa had the highest average retail price per gallon at ₦7,250.00, followed by Taraba at ₦7,218.27 and Kebbi at ₦7,158.33. Conversely, Rivers State recorded the lowest price at ₦4,234.62, with Delta and Bayelsa following at ₦4,500.00 and ₦4,800.00, respectively.

Regional analysis indicated that the North-West zone recorded the highest average retail price per gallon at ₦6,742.41, followed by the North-East at ₦6,174.76, while the North-Central zone recorded the lowest at ₦4,988.61.
