The federal government has put in place the use of barges and trucks, to halt evacuation of crude oil from the point of production to storage points
This was revealed, in a statement by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission in Abuja
Sequel to this, it was implemented to reduce production deferment, damages, and other consequences as a result of pipeline interruption and outages
It was discovered that the decision was driven by a motion put forth by Senator Ned Nwoko, who reeled out data on what Nigeria loses to pipeline vandalism and oil bunkering
According to Nwoko, the economy incurred a huge loss of 65.7 Million barrels of crude oil, translating to a confounding revenue loss of N2.3tn as a result of oil theft
Meanwhile, the National Public Relations Officer, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Chief Ukadike Chinedu, commended the government for coming up with measures to tackle oil theft.
