A truck driver who claims to have witnessed the tragic crash that killed footballers Diogo Jota and Andre Silva has come forward to dispute early reports suggesting the vehicle was speeding at the time of the accident.
Jose Azevedo, the eyewitness, has assured the grieving family that the Lamborghini carrying the brothers was not exceeding the speed limit when it veered off the road and burst into flames, leading to their deaths.
His statement follows a preliminary investigation report released on Tuesday, which indicated that excessive speed may have been a contributing factor in the fatal crash. However, Azevedo has since provided a video, reportedly captured from his truck’s dashboard camera, which he says supports his claim.
In the footage, Azevedo can be heard insisting that the vehicle was traveling within legal speed limits when the incident occurred.
Forensic experts continue to examine the crash site, focusing on tyre marks and other physical evidence to determine whether a tyre burst or driver speed was the primary cause of the accident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
