Suspected Cult Members Behead Youth Leader in Akwa Ibom

Date:

A group of young men suspected to be cultists on Sunday night allegedly beheaded the youth president of Inen clan, Hezekiah John Adaiden, in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The incident, it was gathered, occurred around 1 a.m. when a group of suspected cultists, known to the deceased, visited him and were entertained with drinks before another group attacked while they were still drinking.

An eyewitness who did not want his name mentioned reported that the cultists caught the youth president, comacoma, and cut off his head, leaving the headless body in the pool of his blood.

He added that the hoodlums went further to raid the house, carting away valuable items, and attacked the wife before leaving with the head of her husband.

He said: “Till now, we cannot understand what happened. The cultists arrived at the compound at a very odd hour in the night, and since they are known by the youth president, he offered them drinks.

“While they were drinking at about 1 a.m., another group, well-armed, arrived and were very violent as they dragged the victim to a corner and killed him.

”The most annoying thing is that they beheaded him and escaped with the head after they had tortured his wife and poured the soup that the wife cooked on her head as they beat her mercilessly.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in Akwa Ibom, SP Odiko Macdon, in a reaction, described the incident as barbaric, adding that the perpetrators will escape unpunished.

Macdon said the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, has ordered the Criminal and Investigation Department (CID) to commence investigations into the matter.

“There is an ongoing manhunt in the area to arrest perpetrators of such crimes. However, normalcy has been restored in the area. There is peace in the area now. A special squad has been drafted to the area to fish out the criminals. I can assure you that the suspects would be arrested and brought to book,” the commissioner reassured.
