Nigerian international Paul Onuachu has completed a permanent transfer from Southampton FC to Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, the English club announced on Friday.
The 31-year-old forward leaves Southampton after two-and-a-half years, during which he made 40 appearances and scored four goals. He had spent the 2023/2024 season on loan at Trabzonspor, where he impressed with 15 goals in 21 matches.
In a statement published on its official website, Southampton said:
“Southampton Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed with Trabzonspor for the transfer of striker Paul Onuachu.
We thank Paul for his efforts during his time as a Saints player and wish him well.”
Onuachu joined Southampton from Belgian club Genk in early 2023 but struggled for consistent playing time at the Premier League side. Following the club’s relegation to the Championship last season, his future became a subject of speculation before the deal with Trabzonspor was finalised.
The towering striker made his international debut for Nigeria in 2019 and has since earned 24 caps, scoring three goals. He was part of the Super Eagles squad that finished second at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
Trabzonspor will be hoping Onuachu’s scoring prowess will boost their campaign in the upcoming Turkish Super Lig season.
