Super Eagles Hang on to Beat Sierra Leone in Abuja

Date:

The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Thursday held on to achieve a victory over Sierra Leone in the Day 1 fixture of the 2023 Africa cup of Nations qualification series at the MKO Abiola Stadium.

The Leone Stars who fought bravely to pull off a four-goal comeback against Nigeria in Benin City in November last year once again showed their resilience, taking the lead early in the game through a beautiful header from Jonathan Morsay. The Super Eagles however were not having it as they equalised in the 16th minute through Alex Iwobi when he linked up beautifully with Moses Simon before slotting to the bottom right corner.

Victor Osimhen completed the comeback just four minutes before halftime when he got into position and sent the ball into the roof of the net after a header from Moses Simon.

The win puts the Super Eagles as leaders of Group A, as they head to Agadir, Morocco for their Day 2 fixture against The Falcons and True Parrots of São Tomé and Príncipe on Monday evening.
