Senator Akpabio Pushes for Amendment Ensuring Oil Firms Support Niger Delta Communities

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio has unveiled plans to amend the Petroleum Industry Act to enforce mandatory contributions of 3% by international oil companies to host communities in the Niger Delta Region.

Senator Akpabio who arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport after attending the Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, emphasised the need for the amendment to ensure international oil companies fulfill their social responsibility to host communities.

Senator Akpabio applauded the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its new development approach in the region, resulting in recent commissioning of turnkey projects.
