Lagos witnessed defiant protests on Monday as activists from the Take It Back Movement (TIBM) flooded the streets, disregarding the Inspector General of Police’s order to cancel their planned demonstration. Hundreds converged under the Ikeja Under-Bridge before marching toward the Lagos State Government House and House of Assembly in Alausa.

The protest, targeting the controversial Cybercrime Act and perceived threats of emergency rule in Rivers State, proceeded peacefully despite heavy police presence. The demonstration directly challenged Sunday’s police statement branding the protest as “ill-timed” and “unpatriotic” for coinciding with the newly declared National Police Day on April 7.
TIBM’s National Coordinator, Juwon Sanyaolu, led the march toward Ojota’s Gani Fawehinmi Park, where he addressed the crowd. The movement insists on citizens’ constitutional right to protest, rejecting claims that the demonstration aimed to undermine the police.

The Lagos action mirrors similar protests across Nigeria, amplifying calls for governance reforms amid rising public discontent.
