President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to leave Abuja today for a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom (UK), as part of his annual leave.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the President will use the two weeks for both a working vacation and a retreat, reflecting on his administration’s ongoing economic reforms.
He is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of his leave.
This trip follows the President’s recent address to the nation during Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebrations, where he announced plans to host a 30-day national youth conference. The conference, he stated, aims to actively involve the youth in shaping his administration’s policies.
“As we work to overcome the challenges of today, we remain mindful of the next generation, seeking to galvanize their creative energy towards a better future,” Tinubu said during his second Independence Day speech since taking office on May 29, 2023.
The President emphasized that the upcoming National Youth Conference will focus on addressing the various challenges and opportunities facing Nigerian youth, who make up over 60 percent of the country’s population.
He assured that the modalities and delegate selection process for the conference would be developed in consultation with youth representatives.
“The 30-day conference will bring together young people from across the nation to collectively create solutions to issues such as education, employment, innovation, security, and social justice,” he noted.
Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to implementing the recommendations from the conference as part of efforts to build a more inclusive, prosperous, and united Nigeria.
He also highlighted his administration’s focus on reforming Nigeria’s political economy and defense architecture, stating that these changes are crucial for the nation’s survival.
The President praised the resilience of Nigerians, acknowledging that the country has weathered crises that have torn other nations apart. He further pledged to continue the fight against bandits and terrorists, ensuring that displaced farmers can return to their farmlands and help reduce soaring food prices.
