The decision followed reports that the council illegally appointed an unqualified Vice Chancellor, bypassing due process.

A statement from Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Wednesday highlighted concerns over the council’s disregard for the university’s governing laws.

The Federal Government had intervened to address tensions between the university’s Senate and the governing council.

In a related move, President Tinubu also approved the removal of Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, for illegally suspending the Vice Chancellor and refusing to comply with the Ministry of Education’s directives.

The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring proper governance in universities and maintaining focus on improving Nigeria’s education standards.
