Osimhen Nominated For 2025 CAF Men’s Player Of The Year

Date:

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been nominated for the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the 10-man shortlist on Wednesday, featuring top players across the continent.

Other nominees include Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Oussama Lamlioui, Guinea’s Seyrou Guirassy, Congo’s Fiston Mayele, Cameroon’s Frank Anguissa, Gabon’s Denis Bouanga, and Senegal’s Ilimane Ndiaye and Pape Sarr.

Osimhen, who won the prestigious award in 2023, enjoyed a stellar season with Galatasaray, where he scored 26 league goals to help the Turkish club clinch the championship. His outstanding form also earned him a permanent move from Napoli, in a record-breaking €75 million transfer deal — the highest in Turkish football history.

The Nigerian forward was equally instrumental in helping the Super Eagles secure a playoff spot for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, netting six goals in six matches during the qualifiers.

In other categories, Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali received a nomination for the CAF Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year, joining Yassine Bounou, Ronwen Williams, and Andre Onana on the shortlist.

Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi is also in contention for the CAF Men’s Young Player of the Year award.

Meanwhile, Super Falcons stars Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo have been shortlisted for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year category, continuing Nigeria’s strong representation at the continental awards.
