OIL SPILLAGE: Reps Urge FG to Ensure Clean-up on Niger Delta Region by IOCs

Date:

House of Representatives has urged the federal government to ensure that International Oil Companies (IOCs) clean up the Niger Delta region.

This followed a Motion sponsored by the Member representing Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency, Hon. Paul Ekpo noting that there were about 9,870 spill incidents between 2011 and 2021, resulting in oil spillage.

The Lawmaker is worried that the incessant oil spillage in the Niger Delta Region has affected human health and traditional livelihoods as he noted that about 16,000 infants in the Niger Delta died as a result of this.
