Officer Allegedly Shoots Resident For Insisting APC Will Win Plateau Guber Poll

The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a police officer, Solomon Damak for shooting one Mr Nyommena Badapba of Tudun Wada community in Jos North Local Government Area of the state during an argument over which candidate will win the March 11 governorship poll in the state.

The incident occurred on Sunday when the officer argued that the All Progressives Congress would not win the election, a position that Badapba reportedly disagreed with.

According to reports, a resident of Tudun Wada community who witnessed the shooting said the police officer and the young man were engaged in a political argument on who will win the governorship election in the state.

The witness said, “The policeman was castigating the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda.

“He said he will not win the election because he has nothing to offer the people of the state but Nyommena was trying to defend him.

It was learnt the argument provoked the armed officer to shoot Badapba on his shoulder.

“When the argument became heated, the young man was advised to end the conversation and he left for his house.”

According to the victim, the police officer who was armed trailed the victim from behind.

“Suddenly, the policeman targeted his head and opened fire but luckily ,the bullet hit the youngman at his shoulder.

The victim is currently receiving treatment at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital Jos.

“He is currently at the Bingham university teaching hospital in Jos where he was rushed to,” he added.

According to the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, the firearm of the arrested officer had been recovered and the culprit detained for disciplinary actions.

Alfred said, “The circumstance that led to the infliction of the gun injury by the recalcitrant officer does not fit into his professional calling but was done out of vindictiveness which contradicts the attributes of a Nigerian police officer.

“In order to ensure that the officer does not evade justice, the officer had been arrested, his firearm was recovered and he has since been detained for disciplinary action.”
