Former US President Barack Obama criticized Donald Trump during his first appearance on the 2024 campaign trail, urging voters to back Kamala Harris.
Speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania, Obama called Trump “crazy” and out of touch, comparing his long speeches to those of Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
He questioned why anyone would believe Trump could bring change, humorously asking, “Do you think Donald Trump ever changed a diaper?”
Obama also addressed hesitancy among Black male voters to support Harris, suggesting it might stem from discomfort with the idea of a woman president. He urged voters to reject Trump’s divisive behavior and instead focus on real strength and leadership.
Obama’s rally in Pennsylvania is part of a broader effort to rally support for Harris in battleground states ahead of the November 5 election. He highlighted the importance of voter turnout and criticized Trump’s bullying and macho image, stressing that real strength lies in integrity and leadership.
In a surprise visit to a campaign office in Pittsburgh, Obama made a direct appeal to Black men, encouraging them to set aside any biases and support Harris.
Meanwhile, Harris was in Nevada and Arizona addressing key voter groups. In Arizona, she commented on Hurricane Milton’s aftermath and assured voters of the federal government’s efforts to rebuild affected regions.
On the same day, Trump continued his own campaign efforts in Michigan, unveiling protectionist plans for the US auto industry. He also took personal jabs at Harris, calling her “dumber than hell” and warning that the country could deteriorate under her leadership.
Obama’s appearance is seen as a strategic move to boost Harris’s campaign, which has faced challenges in the polls. With just weeks until Election Day, Democrats hope Obama’s star power can energize voters and tip the scales in Harris’s favor.
