Nigerian sprinter Tima Godbless made global headlines at the NCAA East Preliminary meet in Florida on Thursday, clocking a new personal best of 10.91 seconds in the first heat of the women’s 100 metres — the fastest time recorded in the world this year.
The 20-year-old Louisiana State University athlete delivered a dominant performance, finishing well ahead of Joella Lloyd of Florida State University, who came second with a time of 11.10 seconds.
Godbless now ranks as the fourth-fastest Nigerian woman in history, behind only Blessing Okagbare, Rosemary Chukwuma, and Glory Alozie.
Her time currently tops the 2025 global rankings, and she heads into Friday’s quarter-finals as the leading contender for a spot at the NCAA Championships.
