NIGERIA’S FIRST CYCLOTRON FACILITY AIMS TO REVOLUTIONIZE DIAGNOSTICS AND TREATMENT ACROSS AFRICA

In a groundbreaking advancement for Nigeria’s healthcare sector, the African Medical Centre of Excellence’s Cyclotron Facility in Abuja is poised to transform medical diagnostics and treatment across the region. Mr. Brian Deaver, CEO of the African Medical Centre for Excellence, announced that the facility, which has been under construction since July 2022, is set to officially open on June 5, 2025.

As the first of five planned cyclotron facilities in Africa, this center aims to improve the detection of previously undiagnosed conditions, enhancing visibility in medical diagnostics. Mr. Deaver emphasized the facility’s potential and the center’s commitment to transferring knowledge to other hospitals and providing educational opportunities for healthcare professionals, which will encourage further investment in Nigeria’s healthcare system.

Dr. Aisha Umar, Chief Medical Officer of AMCE, revealed that the center will specialize in oncology, cardiology, and hematology, with the capacity to treat up to 150,000 patients annually. There are also plans for a second phase that will expand services to additional medical specialties.

Mr. Ambrosio Moreno, Vice President of LATAM at IBA Radiopharma Solutions, stated that the facility will offer access to advanced diagnostic technologies, including a radiopharmacy that will utilize PET imaging equipment for cancer treatment.

This state-of-the-art facility represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s healthcare landscape, promising to enhance the well-being of countless individuals across the nation.
