NIGERIAN ARMY DEBUNKS RUMORS OF CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF’S DEATH

Date:

The Nigerian Army has dismissed circulating reports from bloggers and online platforms claiming the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Lagbaja.

Earlier, the Army refuted claims of a leadership gap, confirming that General Lagbaja is currently on leave, and the Chief of Policy and Plans, Major General Abdulsalami Bagudu Ibrahim, is acting in his stead.

Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, clarified that all activities are running smoothly, emphasizing that the rumors of a leadership vacuum are unfounded. He also confirmed that the COAS is on a medical checkup abroad, further quashing speculations.

Despite these assurances, some online sources have escalated the misinformation, falsely claiming the COAS’s death, highlighting the damaging effects of fake news.
