Date:

Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress have exited the 2025 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup following a 77–51 loss to Hungary in the round of 16 on Wednesday.

Despite a promising start that saw both teams tied at 9-9 in the first quarter, the Nigerian side lost momentum in the second quarter, conceding a 12-30 run to the Hungarians.

Nigeria attempted a comeback in the third quarter, narrowing the margin slightly with a 15-16 score, but Hungary maintained control. The Europeans edged the final quarter 16-15, sealing a comprehensive 26-point victory.

Hungary’s Kinga Jisepovits led the game with 19 points, while teammate Eliza Farbas dominated the boards with 13 rebounds. For Nigeria, Tobenna Nweke scored 12 points, and Francis Chukwu pulled down 9 rebounds.

Although Nigeria exited the tournament at this stage, they made history as the first African team to win a game and advance to the round of 16 in the competition’s history.
