Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has called on senior citizens to apply their wealth of expertise and experience for the nation’s benefit. Speaking at the Media and Entertainment Veterans Roundtable Conference organized by the National Senior Citizens Centre in Abuja, the Minister stressed the importance of engaging older citizens in national progress.
Represented by the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Press Council, Dr. Dili Ezughah, Alhaji Idris highlighted the need to harness the vast knowledge held by veterans in the media and entertainment industry, urging them to guide younger generations towards activities that drive national development.
The conference provided a platform for veterans from across the country to discuss challenges, propose solutions, and design programs aimed at engaging senior citizens nationwide. It was a lively event, marked by joy and laughter as attendees shared experiences and ideas.
Director General of the National Senior Citizens Centre, Dr. Emem Omokaro, emphasized the importance of respecting and valuing senior citizens. She noted that while old age is often considered a blessing, it is accompanied by stigmatization, creating challenges for older persons in society.
A key moment of the event was the induction of National Senior Citizens Centre Goodwill Ambassadors, who will advocate for age-friendly services and justice for elders across the nation.
