Manchester City played to a goalless draw against Inter Milan on Wednesday night in their Champions League opener at the Etihad Stadium.
This marked only the second time in 42 home Champions League matches under manager Pep Guardiola that City failed to score.
Inter Milan posed a consistent threat and defended with determination.
Despite this, substitute Ilkay Gundogan had two excellent chances to clinch the win, first heading the ball at goalkeeper Yann Sommer and then sending a shot over the bar in the match’s closing moments.
Adding to Guardiola’s frustration, Kevin De Bruyne appeared to be in discomfort after having a shot blocked near the end of the first half and was substituted as part of a double change during halftime.
