LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS: Akwa Ibom Police Command Orders Movement Restrictions on Saturday

The Akwa Ibom Police Command has ordered heightened security across the state and restricted movement during the Local Government Elections scheduled for Saturday, 5th October 2024.

This was revealed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer for Akwa Ibom, ASP Timfon John noting that the restriction of movement will be enforced from 6 am to 6 pm.

According to the PPRO, exemptions to the movement restrictions will apply only to election observers, journalists, healthcare workers, and accredited security personnel with valid identification.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, urged political actors to refrain from any form of electoral violence, warning that such actions will not be tolerated.

CP Eribo also reassured the public that the Nigerian Police, in collaboration with other security agencies, will work to ensure the safety of all voters.
