License Renewal: Kano Govt slams N100,000 fine on defaulting tricycle owners

Date:

Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has warned that tricycle owners who are yet to renew their license will pay N100,000 after one-week deadline.

KAROTA State Commandant, Baffa Babba Danagundi disclosed this in an interview with newsmen.

This is coming weeks after the Agency and the Association of Tricycle Riders reached an agreement on renewing their license.

Report has it that tricycle riders had embarked on a 7-day warning strike to protest the annual N8,500 registration number renewal fees and payment of N100 daily, imposed by the Kano Road Traffic Agency, KAROTA.

The Association later, through its lawyer, Barr. Abba Hikima, announced the suspension of the strike after an agreement was reached between the two parties.

KAROTA Commandant, however, said part of the agreement was that all the tricycle riders will renew their license before the 28th of February, 2022.

According to him, the agency had given another one week for those who were yet to renew their license.

“Deadline for renewing the license is 28 February, and the agency has added another one week.

“When the deadline comes, those who have not paid will have to renew it with N100,000,” Danagundi said.
