The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warmly welcomed Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, and his loyalists back into the party. Jandor, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, officially announced his return to the APC on Monday, weeks after resigning from the PDP.
Jandor, a former APC governorship aspirant and leader of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, had defected to the PDP in 2021. However, on March 3, he resigned from the PDP, citing a lack of discipline within the party and betrayal by its leaders as his reasons for leaving.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Lagos APC Spokesman, Mr. Seye Oladejo, expressed excitement over Jandor’s return. “He is welcome home. We are happy that he now appreciates the fact that Lagos State is still better and safer in the hands of the progressives, who have enjoyed the uninterrupted trust and confidence of our people since the inception of this dispensation,” Oladejo said.
He added that Jandor’s return presents an opportunity for him to contribute to the continued success of the APC-led government and the growth of the party. “We believe there is sufficient opportunity for him to contribute his quota to the continuous success of our government and the growth of our party. We are expecting more defectors in the days ahead,” Oladejo stated.
Jandor’s defection is seen as a significant boost for the APC in Lagos, particularly as the party prepares for future elections. His return underscores the APC’s dominance in the state and its ability to attract key political figures from opposition parties.
The development also highlights the internal challenges facing the PDP in Lagos, with Jandor’s departure being the latest in a series of defections from the party. As the APC strengthens its position, political analysts will be watching to see if more PDP members follow Jandor’s lead.
