Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved the payment of ₦2.185 billion as entitlements to former councillors who served in the state between 2004 and 2024.
The announcement was made on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Kebbi State Councillors’ Forum to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris.
According to the statement, Governor Idris directed that a portion of the approved sum be disbursed immediately by Friday, with the balance to be fully settled by the end of July.
Chairman of the Councillors’ Forum, Bello Gulumbe, lauded the governor’s decision, describing it as a long-overdue gesture that previous administrations had failed to honour. He pledged the forum’s full support for the current administration.
“All former councillors in the state are now committed to supporting your government to achieve its goals,” Gulumbe assured.
In a related development, the Kebbi Elders’ Consultative Forum has cautioned political actors in the state against inflammatory rhetoric and personal attacks, following recent online clashes between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Acting Chairman of the Forum, Justice Muhammad Ambursa, urged political leaders and parties to uphold moral integrity and civility in their engagements, stressing that politics must be conducted with respect, humility, and adherence to ethical standards.
He called on all stakeholders to contribute to building a peaceful and value-driven political culture in line with the state’s religious and moral traditions.
