The First Lady of Kebbi State, Hajiya Zainab Nasir Idris, has inaugurated the disbursement of ₦100 million in grants to support persons with disabilities across the state.
The initiative, organized by the Ministry for Special Duties, was part of events marking the International Day of People with Disabilities, held at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi.
While flagging off the disbursement, Hajiya Zainab encouraged beneficiaries to invest the grants in businesses to enhance their livelihoods.
She reiterated her husband, Governor Nasir Idris’s commitment to providing quality education for every disabled child in the state, irrespective of their physical challenges.
Chairman of the Kebbi State Persons with Disability Rights Commission, Alhaji Anas Malami Gwandu, commended the Governor for prioritizing the welfare of persons with disabilities, including the blind, deaf, and physically impaired.
He also stressed the importance of education and urged beneficiaries to adhere to rules discouraging street begging.
A special moment at the event was the recognition of Abdulhakim Abubakar, a wheelchair user, and third-year Education Chemistry student at the Federal University Birnin Kebbi.
Celebrated as a symbol of “ability in disability,” Abdulhakim had previously received a motorcycle and an offer of automatic employment as a teacher from the Governor.
