Top officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently holding a crucial meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at its national headquarters in Abuja, as part of efforts to address unresolved issues threatening the party’s internal cohesion.
Leading the delegation is the PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum. He is joined by prominent party figures including Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir; Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State; Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State; and Governor Dauda Lawal Dare of Zamfara State.
Also present at the meeting are former Senate President, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Senator Abba Moro, and other high-ranking chieftains and stakeholders.
The parley, convened at INEC’s headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, follows a request by Amb. Damagum to engage the commission on critical matters affecting the party’s operations. While the specific issues under discussion were not immediately disclosed, the meeting is widely seen as part of the PDP’s broader push to resolve internal rifts and reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by Nuru Shehu Jos, Personal Assistant to the PDP Acting National Chairman, the meeting was described as “a discussion on the way forward on the lingering issue regarding our great Party at hand.”
Observers say the outcome of the meeting could significantly influence the PDP’s strategic direction, with many party loyalists hopeful it will lead to stronger internal unity and renewed public confidence.
“The PDP remains the best political party in Nigeria, ready to rescue Nigeria in 2027. We move,” the statement added.
More updates are expected as the meeting continues.
