Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress wrapped up their historic debut at the 2025 FIBA U-19 Women’s Basketball World Cup with a 96-71 loss to China in Sunday’s classification game, finishing 12th overall in the global tournament.
The match saw China avenge their earlier 93-88 defeat to Nigeria on the opening day, controlling the contest from the onset with dominant first three quarters of 26-14, 30-21, and 23-18.
Although the Nigerian girls fought back to edge the final quarter 18-17, it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Despite the loss, Junior D’Tigress made history by becoming the first African team to win a match and reach the Round of 16 in the tournament’s history, earning plaudits for their spirited performances throughout the competition.
