Lagos, April 30, 2025 – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has demonstrated its commitment to inclusive education as 101 physically challenged candidates successfully completed their Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at a specially equipped center in Lagos. The two-day examination, held at the University of Lagos’ Distance Learning Institute, formed part of JAMB’s Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) initiative designed to provide equal access to education for all candidates regardless of physical limitations.
Under the leadership of Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede and chaired by eminent educationist Prof. Peter Okebukola, the JEOG program implemented comprehensive support measures including:
- Personalized pre-exam coordination with candidates contacted two months in advance
- Full accommodation and feeding for examinees and their guides
- Specialized examination tools including Braille materials and writing aids
- On-site medical support with standby ambulance services
Prof. Lanre Fagbohun, SAN, coordinator of the Lagos center covering Lagos and Ogun States, explained: “JEOG was specifically created to give these exceptional candidates the care and attention they deserve. We’ve eliminated barriers that might prevent them from demonstrating their true academic potential.”
Visually impaired candidate Chinaka Victory praised the initiative: “The arrangements were fabulous. I hope the government will establish more special schools with these educational aids across all states.” Fellow examinee Peace Chidinma added that the support enabled her to focus fully on her examination.
The successful conduct of these specialized examinations marks another milestone in JAMB’s efforts to promote inclusive education, setting a benchmark for other examination bodies in Nigeria. With 11 such centers nationwide, the program continues to expand access to tertiary education for Nigeria’s physically challenged youth.
