Date:

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially scheduled the Ekiti and Osun state governorship elections for Saturday, July 20 and Saturday, August 8, 2026, respectively.

The announcement was made by INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, during the swearing-in ceremony of six newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the INEC headquarters on Friday.

These new RECs were recently confirmed by the National Assembly and will be deployed to various states to strengthen INEC’s operational capacity ahead of the upcoming polls.

In addition to the gubernatorial election dates, Prof. Yakubu disclosed that the Commission is in the final stages of preparations for multiple bye-elections to fill vacant seats in the National and State Houses of Assembly.

He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in accordance with the electoral calendar.
