The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially confirmed the receipt of 110 applications from associations seeking registration as political parties in Nigeria.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu said the Commission is processing the applications in strict compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines.

“As of Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties,” Yakubu announced.
“We are diligently processing the requests in line with the procedure outlined in the law as well as our regulations and guidelines. We have acknowledged all applications received, except for six, which were submitted recently and will be acknowledged before the end of the week.”

He encouraged Nigerians interested in forming political parties to consult the INEC Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022, available on the Commission’s website.

Yakubu also confirmed that the full list of the 110 associations, including proposed names, acronyms, addresses, and names of Chairmen and Secretaries, will be uploaded on INEC’s official website and social media handles. Hard copies have also been shared with stakeholders at the meeting.
