HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PROBE POLICE SERVICE COMMISSION OVER N1BN EXTRA-BUDGETARY SPENDING.

Date:

The House of Representatives Committee on public accounts has set up a Sub-Committee to investigate alleged N1.066bn extra-budgetary spending and others by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

The Committee frowned at alleged payment of funds into some private accounts of the psc officials allegedly not retired.

The Chairman of the Committee Wole Oke stated this in Abuja at the public hearing based on audit queries by the office of the auditor-general for the federation.

PSC Permanent Secretary, Williams Alo and Director of Finance and Account, Brighten Saagwe both made oral defence of the expenditures which followed an earlier written presentation by the commission.

In the written Defence, the PSC said the money received from the service wide vote was utilised to pay severance allowances of the Former Chairman and two full-time members of the Commission whose tenure expired on April, 14, 2013.
