His Highness Muhammadu Lamido Sanusi II has been reappointed as the 14th Emir of Kano, 1,545 days after his deposition.
Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf approved the reappointment yesterday by signing the Kano State Emirates Council Bill, 2024, which was passed by the House of Assembly.
This new law repeals the previous Kano Emirate Council Law of 2019, the Kano State Emir’s Appointment and Deposition Amendment Law of 2019, and the Kano State Emirate Council Amendment Law of 2023, all enacted by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
These earlier laws had created five Emirates in Kano and led to the deposition of Prof. Sanusi.
Following this development, Governor Yusuf has given the five former Emirs 48 hours to vacate all official residences and hand over Former Emirate properties to the Deputy Governor.
