The Federal Government is set to introduce a revised curriculum for basic education nationwide, incorporating 15 new skills to better equip students for economic engagement and productive lives. Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, announced this during a meeting with education stakeholders in Abuja, where discussions centered on the upcoming curriculum rollout.
The new curriculum, which will be implemented starting January 2025, moves beyond traditional teaching methods by focusing on skills acquisition. Prof. Mamman highlighted that the initiative prepares students with practical skills, blending knowledge, values, and economic readiness.
To support this transition, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuous investment in teacher development, ensuring educators are fully prepared to meet the evolving needs of students.
Dr. Garba Gandu, Director of Curriculum at the Nigerian Education Research and Development Council, praised the ministry’s efforts, noting the curriculum’s potential to equip students with 21st-century skills. New skills include robotics, makeup, information technology, beekeeping, and event planning.
